Improve Attention and Executive Functioning with Neurocognitive Training

Neurocognitive Training in Suwanee, GA

At Paraclete Counseling Center, we offer specialized neurocognitive training aimed at improving attention, focus, and executive functioning (EF) skills. Our advanced neurofeedback programs are designed to help individuals enhance cognitive performance through cutting-edge neurotechnology.

How Neurocognitive Training Works

Our neurocognitive training utilizes advanced brainwave technology that measures brain activity through a non-invasive, comfortable device worn on the body. This technology offers real-time, continuous feedback, allowing you to create new neural pathways and improve cognitive skills such as attention and self-regulation.

With this innovative approach, cognitive exercises are entirely controlled by your mind, helping you engage in focused attention training to rewire neural pathways and boost cognitive performance.

Neuroplasticity: Rewiring the Brain to Improve Cognitive Function and Executive Skills

The foundation of our neurocognitive training is based on neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural pathways. As you focus your attention during training, your brain gradually rewires itself, improving cognitive abilities such as focus, memory, and decision-making.

Through regular neurofeedback exercises, neuroplasticity allows the brain to adapt, promoting better cognitive function and enhancing executive functioning skills. This process can benefit individuals looking to improve their ability to manage tasks, increase attention span, and optimize cognitive performance.

Research-backed neurocognitive training shown to improve executive functioning and attention skills, with proven results from Tufts University studies on Play Attention.

Research-Backed Neurocognitive Training: Proven Results from Tufts University Studies

Play Attention is supported by extensive research conducted by Tufts University School of Medicine in collaboration with the Boston Public School System. In three randomized controlled studies, Tufts University evaluated the effectiveness of Play Attention in improving executive functioning and attention skills.

In these studies, one group used Play Attention, another group engaged in traditional brain games, and the third group received no intervention. The results revealed that the Play Attention group showed significant improvements in executive functioning, attention, and social and behavioral control—with no significant increase in medication use.

In contrast, the brain games group and the control group showed no improvements in attention or executive functioning. Additionally, these groups had an average increase of 9 mg in medication.

Six months later, researchers revisited the participants to assess whether the gains were maintained. They found that students in the Play Attention group had retained their improved attention and cognitive skills, demonstrating the long-term benefits of neurocognitive training.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Children and adults can play video games for hours. This is because these games have fast moving high resolution graphics and sound effects that stimulate the reward center of the brain. Even kids and adults with ADHD can focus on these games. Play Attention is a computer-based program that utilizes “boring,” non-stimulating computer graphics that simulates mundane or monotonous situations, like listening in class or doing homework. These game-like cognitive exercises are controlled by attention alone. In other words, the brain acts as a controller. The immediate feedback in real time allows the participant to know if they are paying attention, and if not, we immediately let you know so you can self-monitor and then self-correct.

  • Yes! Play Attention technology was originally used to train NASA astronauts. This technology was then used to create the BodyWave® armband. Out of the three randomized controlled studies by Tufts University School of Medicine, students who were part of the Play Attention group had global improvements in academic, social and behavioral functioning as well as improvements in executive functioning.

  • Yes! Both ADHD children and adults can benefit. Cognitive benefits have even been reported by senior citizens who were trying to improve their cognitive skills. Although no studies have been completed on adults with long-haul COVID who have memory issues, we believe this neurocognitive training could benefit these adults as well.

  • Research indicates that the minimum amount of time that provides lasting benefits is two 30-minute sessions per week for a total of approximately 40 hours. After 40 weeks, participants will have lasting brain changes with long-term benefits. It is recommended that participants use it for one hour a week, divided into two 30-minute sessions, but this can vary with each person as some people require more training while others require less. Many people will begin to see results in about six weeks of consistent training.

    • increased attention

    • greater time on tasks

    • less impulsivity

    • better academic/work performance

    • improved social interactions

    • improved productivity and executive functioning

  • You may either come to our office and use our BodyWave® Armband and software without renting or purchasing the armband. Another option is to purchase the BodyWave® Armband directly from Play Attention to use in the comfort of your home. You would still pay Paraclete for the initial assessment and customized weekly sessions. We will have a limited supply of armbands for lease.

Customized Neurocognitive Training Programs to Boost Focus and Cognitive Skills

We offer customized neurocognitive training programs designed to improve attention and executive functioning. Our tailored program sets specific curriculum goals for each cognitive exercise, tracks progress, and manages rewards to ensure continuous improvement.

As part of our neurocognitive training, we offer the Academic Bridge program, where participants can perform tasks such as homework or studying while wearing the BodyWave® Armband. This approach helps transfer newly acquired cognitive skills into real-life situations, enhancing focus, attention, and executive functioning.
