Charlotte Handel is a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) dedicated to helping children, couples, and families navigate the complexities of mental health and relationships.
Charlotte’s approach is deeply rooted in empathy, ensuring that every client feels understood and supported. Charlotte specializes in addressing a variety of mental health disorders for kids and teens including ADHD, ODD, PTSD, self-esteem, self-harm, depression, anxiety, trauma, anger and behavioral issues. She enjoys working with adults on issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relationships. Charlotte uses a combination of therapeutic techniques tailored to each client’s unique needs which includes but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
For children and teens (ages 5-17), Charlotte employs Play Therapy Techniques, Sand Tray Therapy, and bibliotherapy creating a safe and expressive environment where young clients can explore their emotions and experiences through creative activities. These methods allow children to communicate their feelings in a non-threatening way, fostering emotional regulation and development.
Charlotte works with couples who are looking for premarital and marital counseling to help strengthen their relationship and emotional bond. By fostering empathy and understanding, Charlotte guides couples through the process of rebuilding trust and improving communication. Charlotte is Level 1 Gottman trained and is a SYMBIS-certified facilitator, which is a program for guiding premarital couples. Charlotte has experience working with families who are experiencing divorce, remarriage or are in a blended family setting. As a family therapist, Charlotte strives to understand each family member's perspective. Her goal is to encourage open communication, allowing individuals to share and understand each other's viewpoints, ultimately fostering more positive family dynamics. Charlotte cultivates a supportive and collaborative atmosphere, enabling families to address conflicts and build stronger relationships.
As a graduate of Liberty University, Charlotte has learned to integrate biblical principles with evidence-based counseling practices to build a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to make an impact in couples and families of Christ. Charlotte combines clinical skills with a Christian perspective and will integrate faith according to your comfort.
Charlotte holds a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University and a master’s in Human Services from University of North Georgia. Charlotte is a Human Service Board-Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP). Charlotte is an active member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
Outside of her professional life, Charlotte enjoys spending time with her family, three dogs and traveling.
