Kami Legg MA, LMFT

Kami feels privileged to walk alongside people who are hurting and help them find healing, resolve past wounds, find solutions for problems, and strengthen or repair relationships. She brings over a decade of experience in counseling and nearly 20 years in the mental health field to help her clients work through and overcome whatever is blocking their path to peace, joy, and healthy living.

Kami enjoys working with a variety of clients from young children to adults as well as couples and families struggling with a range of issues. For those who desire faith-based counseling, Kami offers counsel from a Christian perspective, helping clients tap into their healing relationship with God and encounter His presence amidst their pain and struggles. Although she offers faith-based counseling, not all of her clients want that and Kami welcomes people from all backgrounds and belief systems to her office. Kami enjoys tailoring the counseling approach and style to the individual client's needs and preferences and hopes to make the counseling experience as enjoyable as possible.

Mood Disorders and Trauma

Kami is experienced in treating mood disorders and helping people with depression, anxiety, bipolar depression, OCD, and panic attacks. She has advanced training in working with people who have experienced trauma including sexual and physical abuse, combat trauma, car accidents, medical issues, and traumatic losses, such as losing a loved one. She is trained in and uses an evidenced based treatment for trauma called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which helps the brain resolve trauma and fear-based situations which keep getting replayed in the person's thoughts, emotions, or body. Couples Therapy

Kami’s training in marriage and family therapy makes her uniquely qualified to provide counseling to couples for a range of issues from affair recovery to communication and conflict resolution to issues with intimacy and connection. Kami helps couples to repair, reconnect, or strengthen their relationship and improve physical and emotional intimacy. Kami helps couples in every season of their relationships including couples who are dating and trying to decide if they are compatible for marriage, engaged couples who are preparing for marriage, married couples who wish to reconnect or strengthen their connection, and couples who are experiencing high conflict and relationship dissatisfaction.

Children and Families

Kami has lots of experience working with families and children from toddlers to young adults. Kami began her work with children working at camps and babysitting children as a teenager and young adult and continued that work in residential mental health and hospital settings. She has special training and took additional coursework specific to counseling children and teens and works with children struggling with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, phobias, school avoidance, academic struggles, ADHD, social anxiety, OCD, disordered eating, medical/health issues, problems with sleep, social skill difficulties or bullying, self-harm/cutting, low self-esteem, and behavior problems. Kami uses a range of activity and play-based modalities to help make counseling fun and engaging for younger kids. With teens she often uses a mixture of talk therapy and music and art based activities. Kami also works with families and coaches parents to assist them with strategies to better structure and support their children and help them succeed in life.

Education and Training

Kami has a Master of Arts degree from Richmont Graduate University (formerly the Psychological Studies Institute), where she got training in professional counseling, marriage and family therapy, trauma counseling, and faith-based counseling–integrating Christian beliefs with counseling practices. She also has a specialty certificate in counseling children and adolescents from Richmont Graduate University and undergraduate training in Recreation Therapy from Middle Tennessee State University . Kami also completed additional coursework at Georgia State University in Clinical Psychology. Kami is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Georgia and is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Kami is a Prepare-Enrich certified facilitator and is trained in both level I and level II of EMDR therapy and in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

In her free time, Kami enjoys being outdoors, making jewelry, cooking, and spending time with her family.
